For decades, Zionists considered the anti-Zionist Satmar Chassidim (who believe that Jews should have waited for the Messiah instead of creating a Jewish state on our own) to be traitors to the Jewish People. Now, the tables have been turned--anti-Zionist Jews now consider Zionist Jews to be beyond the pale (albeit for completely different reasons). Maybe I'm naive, but I didn't see this coming at all. 😢

Once upon a time, I belonged to a left-wing egalitarian Conservative synagogue, where I was one of a number of women who wore a tallit—and one of the few members who used an Orthodox prayer book (adding the Mothers, of course). Having moved since then, I now belong to a right-wing traditional Conservative synagogue, where I’m almost always the only woman wearing a tallit—and one of the few members who adds the Mothers. I seem destined to be forever . . . on the fringe.

Melissa Baden , maybe you saw this coming because you're a lot younger than I am. This is, unfortunately, a fight started mainly by your generation. 🙁 I wish you good luck dealing with the anti-Zionist cohort among folks closer to your age than to mine.

Shira Salamone it’s actually something I noticed first in the generation preceding mine. It’s a really sad reality of living in Jewish community right now, and it’s really hurtful. I, too, hope for change.
